Hugh with Hi Sam sign sitting in a tent in the garden

Hi Sam! Today I have mostly been sitting in the garden enjoying the weather. To keep out of the sun we put up a mini tent which is like a dog’s kennel! I had a little sleep to recover from my trip to the gym earlier practicing for the bike ride next weekend. The garden is lovely as there its lots of space and all kinds of vegetables growing.

Havin a bostin’ time!

Posted by stuff4sam on June 28, 2006

Am in the West Midlands, Birmingham to be precise! It’s reeely grate!

Am here all week and putting in a couple of harsh indoor bike rides at the Living Well Gym in Sutton Coldfield! One hour into my ninety minute solo spinning class today Kirsty (gym staff) came past and said that I had a large pool of sweat around my bike. Nice! I am only hoping that the hard graft is going to help with next week’s twelve hour ride.

Having a day off from training tomorrow and may visit the famous Floozie in the Jacuzzi in the Centre of Brum!

Hi Sam sign in front of dog statue

Hi Sam, from beside a statue of ‘Snooks’ the dog on the seafront at Aldeburgh. Snooks belonged to the people who used to be the vets in Aldeburgh.

Hi Sam from from a Teddy Bear’s picnic in Regent’s Park

Posted by stuff4sam on June 27, 2006

Teddy bear's picnic

To celebrate midsummer’s day we had a team picnic in Regent’s Park and invited our teddy bears! They all wanted to say ‘Hi Sam!’ before tucking into their sandwiches and cake!

Lots of love from all in Publishing and Internal Comms (RNIB)

A bicycle made for two

Posted by stuff4sam on June 27, 2006

Well its looking good for getting a bike! I’ve had four possible leads so watch this space…..

I did spot this Chopper one on eBay but don’t think it would be that comfy for 120 miles! Shame, we could have got a cool bell, spokey dokeys and worn our flares!

It’s only 120 miles

Posted by stuff4sam on June 26, 2006

Hmmm, 120 miles. That’s equivalent to:

  • London to Bristol
  • Newcastle to Sheffield
  • London to Birmingham plus fifteen extra miles round spaghetti junction.

Not far then!

For those of you that are interested or fancy lining the route to cheer us on here is the list of places with funny names that we speed through:

>> London:

Martello Street, Mare Street, Church Path, Lower Clapton Road, Powerscroft Road, Chatsworth Road, Lea Bridge Road, Waltham Forest

>>Essex:

Epping Forest, Epping, North Weald, Moreton, Fyfield, Leaden Roding, Great. Dunmow, Great. Bardfield, Finchingfield, Wethersfield, South Hedingham, C. Hedingham, Bulmer Tye

>>Suffolk:

Sudbury, Great. Waldingfield (feeding station in village hall), Monks Eleigh , Bildeston, Needham Market, Coddenham, Hemmingstone, Gosbeck, Helmingham, Framsden, Cretingham, Brandeston, Kettleburgh, Framlingham, Bruisyard, Peasenhall, Sibton Church, Darsham, Westleton, Dunwich Village, Dunwich Beach (just in time for an early morning swim).

Dunwich Beach

Do you know any of the areas that the ride goes through? Leave a comment with suggestions of what to look out for on the route. We’ll try and take pictures if it is light enough and will post them on the blog during the event!

If you’re interested in seeing how it all fits together there is a map online at Gmaps Pedometer

See you there!

12 days to go

Posted by stuff4sam on June 26, 2006

Despite the lovely weather over the weekend no tandem riding was done. It was not for the lack of a bike (you'll be glad to hear) but due to various logistical reasons which I won't go into. We have the promise of a bike to practice on next Sunday so watch this space! Many thanks to Tina and Steve for making this possible.

During the week we will be working on general fitness levels so as to keep strong and focussed for the big day (night).

Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far and got the total over £9K! Ten grand here we come!

Has anyone seen this bike?

Posted by stuff4sam on June 23, 2006

 Purple tandem

Does anyone have a good quality touring tandem suitable for two guys about 5'8'' tall and not heavy? Not that we're desperate or anything! Any suggestions or contacts gratefully received! Either leave a comment here or email me at stuff4sam@gmail.com
